Central Indiana NECA members came together on Wednesday, April 8, for an engaging and insightful education session focused on developing the skills needed to lead effectively in both the field and the office.

Led by Mark Federle of Marquette University, the course challenged participants to think beyond traditional management approaches and embrace leadership strategies that drive collaboration, performance and long-term success.

Throughout the session, attendees explored what it truly means to lead – highlighting the difference between managing tasks and inspiring people. Discussions centered on understanding different leadership styles and how to adapt them based on team dynamics and real-world situations. Participants also gained valuable insight into building trust, fostering buy-in and creating cohesive teams that can navigate complex project environments.

The course also emphasized practical skills that are critical in today’s industry, including effective communication, persuasion and negotiation. Members examined strategies for diagnosing and resolving conflict, identifying root causes of challenges and applying structured problem-solving techniques to improve outcomes.

By focusing on collaboration, adaptability and continuous improvement, the session reinforced the importance of strong leadership in driving both individual and organizational success.

Central Indiana NECA extends a sincere thank you to Mark Federle for leading this session and sharing his expertise. We also appreciate our members for taking time out of their schedules to invest in their professional growth and the future of our industry.
