Central Indiana NECA continued its commitment to advancing the electrical contracting industry last week by hosting a Collaborative Bargaining Seminar, bringing together industry leaders to strengthen labor-management relationships and reinforce best practices in collective bargaining.

Hosted at the Carmel Public Library, the session focused on NECA’s collaborative, interest-based approach to negotiations with the IBEW – one that prioritizes long-term relationships, shared goals and mutually beneficial outcomes. Rather than taking a traditional adversarial stance, participants explored how understanding underlying interests – “the why” behind proposals – can lead to more effective and sustainable agreements.

Throughout the seminar, attendees engaged in high-level discussions around key concepts that shape successful, “win-win” bargaining. Topics included identifying stakeholder interests across contractors, employees and customers, as well as the importance of communication and emotional intelligence at the bargaining table. The presentation also highlighted how adapting communication strategies can help build consensus and trust among all parties.

A major theme throughout the program was the importance of relationships. Participants examined how strong labor-management partnerships – built on respect, transparency and consistent communication – lead to better outcomes not only for contractors and electricians, but for the customers and communities they serve. Emphasis was also placed on maintaining focus on industry growth, improving efficiency and delivering high-quality work, all while negotiating fair wages, benefits and working conditions.

Central Indiana NECA remains dedicated to equipping its members with the tools, training and resources needed to navigate complex negotiations and lead with confidence. By fostering collaboration with labor partners and investing in education like this seminar, NECA members continue to set the standard for professionalism, productivity and partnership across the industry.

This seminar served as another example of how Central Indiana NECA empowers its members to move the industry forward together.
