Estimating Training Taken to a New Level in Latest CIC NECA Education Course

The Central Indiana Chapter of NECA continued its commitment to workforce development and industry education on May 26-27 by hosting its Advanced Estimating course at the Marriott Indianapolis North. The two-day program brought together estimators, project managers and industry professionals looking to sharpen their strategic approach to bidding and project evaluation within the electrical construction industry.
Designed for individuals with a strong understanding of basic estimating principles, the course built upon attendees’ extensive experience in the field as well as the foundation established during CIC NECA’s Basic Estimating class hosted last year. The advanced course focused on the business strategy behind successful estimating, helping attendees think critically about how to evaluate opportunities, identify project risks and prepare competitive, profitable bids.
Throughout the training, participants explored every phase of the estimating process, including identifying desirable bid opportunities, understanding labor productivity impacts, evaluating company capabilities, analyzing hidden costs within bid documents and distinguishing overhead from profit within estimates. The instructor first established a strong framework of sound estimating principles before guiding the class into more complex and real-world scenarios.
One of the most valuable aspects of the course came through interactive exercises and role-playing opportunities, where attendees collaborated to work through practical estimating situations they may encounter in the field. These hands-on discussions encouraged participants to approach projects strategically while strengthening leadership, communication and decision-making skills alongside their peers.
The course also highlighted CIC NECA’s ongoing effort to listen to member feedback and provide educational opportunities that directly support the evolving needs of contractors and their teams. By expanding upon last year’s Basic Estimating course with more advanced training, CIC NECA continues to invest in the long-term success and professional growth of the electrical contracting industry in Central Indiana.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to another successful educational program.
