ELECTRI International Conference Helps Shape the Future of Electrical Construction

From July 20–23, 2026, Central Indiana NECA participated in the ELECTRI International Conference at The Henry Hotel in Dearborn, Michigan, joining electrical contractors, industry leaders, researchers, and innovators from across the country to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of the electrical construction industry.

As our industry experiences unprecedented growth driven by data centers, advanced manufacturing, and increasing electrification, the conference focused on developing practical, research-backed solutions that contractors can implement today while preparing for tomorrow.

One of the conference's central themes was the "Road Ahead" for the electrical industry. Through collaborative discussions and ongoing research initiatives, attendees explored how contractors can better position themselves for long-term success by embracing innovation, improving productivity, and preparing for evolving workforce demands.

Several emerging topics generated significant discussion, including the continued advancement of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology and its role in supporting America's growing energy needs. As investments in artificial intelligence infrastructure, semiconductor manufacturing, and domestic energy production continue to accelerate, ensuring reliable and scalable power generation will remain critical to our industry's future.

Artificial intelligence also played a major role throughout the conference. Rather than viewing AI as a replacement for skilled workers, discussions centered on how contractors can leverage AI to improve productivity, streamline operations, and help address the ongoing skilled labor shortage while allowing electricians to focus on higher-value work.

Additional sessions highlighted the future of workforce development, recruitment strategies, technology adoption, and industry research that will help contractors remain competitive in an increasingly complex marketplace.
